Data sources

The Periva Sustainability Index brings together data from the following sectors with weightings used to ​combine them into a final index.

• Air Quality Index (AQI) data, collected from IQAir, measures particulate matter in the air.
  

• Energy use data, from Open Energy Data Initiative, includes residential, commercial, industrial ​electricity and natural gas consumption, and on-road consumption of gasoline and diesel.
  

• Reuse data includes sustainable stores, refilleries, Little Free Libraries, and public library use.
  

• Farming data includes local farms and community gardens.
  

• Public Transportation data, from the EPA, assesses the proportion of the population with access to ​public transportation.
  

• Walkability Index, also from the EPA, measures how walkable an area is.
